We currently need to expand the Panel to take on the growing role that YOFE is taking in improving the lives and opportunities for Young People in Enfield.

About the YOFE Panel

The YOFE is for 13 - 19 year olds, up to 25yrs with special educational needs. Decisions on which projects are successful are made by a nationally accredited local Panel of 13 - 19 year olds. These young people volunteer their time to be part of a group who represent 25,000 of their peers in Enfield. Enfield's YOF Panel have delivered presentations to many different Government Dept's over the past two years and have established a high profile for young people delivering excellent results in this Borough.

The YOFE Panel has 21 Panel members at present with a further 6 expressing interest in joining. This ensures a wide range of young people from different backgrounds and interests are having their voices heard.  Any conflict of interest is declared in this decision or discussion.

We have two funding rounds per year (roughly April and October).  We also have two Networking Events where currently funded projects and interested members of the public come together to find out first hand what activities and provision are being offered to young people in Enfield. These events are well attended and provide a platform for young people to run their ideas past Panel Members and to receive feed back on their ideas.

Over the past 3 years the YOFE Panel has shared this funding out to over 180 projects. These have ranged from £90 for some dance classes through to £37,000 for drama provision in Edmonton.

Enfield's Youth Engagement Panel Now has a brand new web site.

The Panel's aim is to engage with young people who feel they are unable to talk to their elders or the police or any other person they see as being in authority regarding all manor of issues which affect our youth, issues such as crime, drug abuse, bullying, unemployment, gangs, sexual health etc, all of which are having negative effects on young people as well as our wider communities.

£365,000 for YOFE Projects in 2009

The full amount of revenue and capital available to young peoples projects in 2009 is £365,000 (revenue and capital projects combined).

As per the aims of YOFE to target disadvantaged young people and to engage those most at risk of being overlooked in mainstream funding - much work has been done contacting as many groups of the above as possible.

YOFE to continue until 2011
There will be similar amounts of money available for 2009, 2010 and 2011. This is fantastic news for Enfield's Young People.

Brilliant Youth Panel - Says MP

The past year has proven to be quite high profile for the Panel with invitations to do presentations on their fund involvement at GOL (Govt. Offices London ), Dept. Culture Media and Sport, DCSF (Youth Programme Board ) as well as 3 of us going to a workshop in Southwark (at the invitation of DCSF) to be involved in the naming of the new  “mYPlace” fund.

The YOFE Panel as a team were invited to do a presentation for the Youth Programme Board meeting at Westminster. They were the only Panel to represent the UK Fund. This meeting was chaired by Anne Weinstock, and was made up of senior level management from DCSF (Department for Children, Schools and Families) and other Departments. This presentation was so brilliant that the Head of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has asked the Panel to come and present to their whole Department.

Not to be left out – Government Offices London also have requested the Enfield YOF Panel present the story of the fund so far - to them. As a result of the Panels profile - the Treasury report “Aiming high for young people - A ten year strategy for positive activities” requested quotes from the YOFE Panel for their publication.

The Youth Opportunity Fund in Enfield is flying along - giving young people a voice and showing Enfield as a leader in the inspirational delivery of Young Peoples Funds.

This year we look forward to increasing the number of Panel members to ensure that many more groups of young people are represented and to ensure that the increasing work load of the existing Panel can be shared. What is the Youth Opportunity Fund Enfield (YOFE)?
Image

YOF / YCF (Youth Opportunity Fund / Youth Capital Fund ) was rolled out nation wide in 2006 to work alongside the “Every Child Matters “ outcomes and deliver greater opportunities for young people. This initiative proved to be so successful it was ringfenced in 2008 to run until 2011. The ethos of this fund is that it is money for projects that young people want.  From the ideas through to the decisions on funding and delivery of new activities and provision - young people aged 13 - 19 shape this fund.

This money comes from DCSF  (Dept. Children Schools  & Families), is administered by Government Offices for London and supported by Youth Services in the London Borough of Enfield.

Enfield receives £365,100.00 per year. ( £195,800 Rev.  £169,300 Cap)  This is to fund positive projects (youth led) outside of school hours, targeting disadvantaged young people.

For any further information on the YOFE (including young people you know who may be interested in joining the Panel or have an idea for a project that will benefit the young people of Enfield) please contact Pink Ross:
